Sculptures

Sculpture has been a means to create an object born not just of observation but also of mind. These objects are an accumulation of small pieces of inert matter, shaped and prodded into place, until they attain a presence and gravity that is greater than the sum of its parts. The most cerebral of my works, they are a physical manifestation of research into (principally) the human form and its projection into space. Though time consuming, they are meditative and play a role in my own investigation of self, and are less dependent on exterior stimuli than drawing of painting.

Currently in the casting process, several of these sculptures have not seen the light of day for some time. Time is a very relative thing when it comes to the age of a sculpture though. Those cast into metal or carved out of stone are some of the longest lasting testaments to human artistry and expression that we have. It is a medium of enormous gravity when seen from the standpoint of potential longevity. For that reason I feel justified in taking my time to make sure that whatever I decide to cast will be of a standard which I will continue to feel proud of well into the future. These will quite literally be the things left behind.
